"A Thief, A Failure, A Fabulous Future"Olivia Schofield
Can you imagine reaching the WCPS? All that work and disqualified for going over
time in the final! Gutted? No way! The reward is not the award: spectacular speaking
is! The trophy of truth brought my speaking to life. At the end of my speech you
will emerge a better speaker and be queuing up to compete. The truth about the trophy!
Don’t be afraid of failing: failure can become your biggest success.
Becoming a better speaker is a journey of unexpected rewards.
Whether your journey ends at club level, the WCPS or in disqualification along the
way, competing makes you a better speaker. It gains you trophies at all levels:
trophies of growth.
Can you imagine going from a speech impediment to being on the stage in front of
2,000 people and ending up as the top women in the finals of a worldwide speaking
competition? That was me. That journey took me back to a small girl of two years
old, a girl with a speech impediment, failing to speak properly, the first brick
in my wall. The feeling that I wasn’t as good as others, another brick, Low self
esteem another brick, I was bullied because of it, another, I dropped out of school,
I stole and took jobs below my capabilities. Years wasted. Later as a mature student
I went to university and graduated with a first class hons. An exceptional achievement?
Exceptionally undervalued by me. Then I found my voice. 18 months after walking
into my first speaking club, I was standing on a stage in Las Vegas and voted one
of the top 9 speakers in the world. A kid with a speech impediment becomes a speaker.
